Columnist Dr. Robert Newby

Long-time member of the Mount Pleasant Area Diversity Group, Bob Newby, has been writing a regular column for The Morning Sun.  Dr. Newby is professor emeritus of sociology at Central Michigan University.  We are always excited to read his perspectives on important social justice issues of today and consider a this column space to be great gift to communities in mid-Michigan!  Here’s how Bob has described his plans for the column:

My plan is to share some thoughts on items of interest to mid-Michigan readers. My appeal for this voice to the Morning Sun was largely based on the fact that my voice would be unique to its readers. “Minority” voices are almost totally absent in this part of the state. Eugene Robinson, a Pulitzer Prize columnist for the Washington Post often appears in the Morning Sun. Robinson, an African American, is a national voice but until now there has been an absence of a local voice by a person of color. My column will bring a local perspective on issues of race, class, gender, and other forms of invidious discrimination.

You can the rest of read his introductory column and find his regular commentary in The Morning Sun.
